Biggest Loser Upset

My girl, Tara, the favorite to win the 2009 Biggest Loser Finale missed the mark. 48 year old Helen took the top honors.

My reign of two years picking the winners after only a couple of shows has come to an end. I added to the misery of losing by allowing one of my clients to bet against me right before the final show - and of course she picked Helen. To add salt to the wound I forgot she had an East Coast feed for the show so I had to hear about the results three hours before California did.

It was a good season - lots of drama - but lacking on actual content related to the mystery of losing weight. Maybe that's the point - losing weight is not a mystery - and would not make for a good show. Can you imagine a two hour show of people recording foods in journals, looking up calorie counts and endless hours on the treadmill - not that exciting.

What is exciting is seeing what is possible when you set your mind to it and are locked down on a fat farm. I think many people that are overweight just throw their hands into the air and accept it as their lot in life - grab another plate at the beginning of the buffet line and pile on the food.

I realize that losing weight is not easy - it is a mental game more than a physical one - but this reality show proves that it can be done. And the 69 year old man that won the "at home" weight loss prize proves two things - a) it can be done at home, and, b) it can be done at any age!

Great show - even though I had a mean spirited client that took my thunder and then rubbed it in my face. That's O.K., I know where she works out!

Boo Whoo....Mark, can we say 'poor loser'? (On the bet, I mean)

I personally think it's great that a 48 yr old can accomplish what she did in such a short period of time. Although, the isolation of the show, having nutritionalists design the menu and a bunch of chefs prepare it all makes all the difference.

However, I think the trainers could use some help in the empathy dept.
